As we walk through Chapter 28, we will close out the Gospel of Matthew. Chapter 28 reveals the empty tomb, the risen Christ, and the Great Commission. This is not simply the end of a book. It is the turning point of history.
The women arrive at the tomb expecting sorrow, but they hear the words that changed the world: “He is not here, for He has risen, as He said.”
Even in their grief, God was faithful to His promise.
We will see the stone was rolled away, not to let Jesus out, but to let witnesses in.
We'll see worship and doubt standing side by side.
We’ll see unbelief trying to cover up truth.
And we’ll stand with the disciples on that mountain in Galilee as Jesus declares, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”
Because He rose, He reigns.
And because He reigns, He sends us.
And because He reigns, He sends us.
Matthew began with Immanuel — God with us.
And tomorrow it ends with Jesus saying, “I am with you always.”
And tomorrow it ends with Jesus saying, “I am with you always.”
Church, if the tomb is empty — and it is — then everything changes.
